ARTICLE 1
Membership
Section 1
Eligibility: Except as here in after provided, membership shall
be open to all persons eighteen years of age and older who are in good
standing with the American Kennel Club and who subscribe to the purpose
of this club.
While membership is to be unrestricted as to residence, the
Club’s primary purpose is to be representative of the breeders and
exhibitors within Alaska.
(A)
General membership: Is open to all person’s 18 years and older who
request general membership and have attended two membership meetings
during the previous twelve months.
All general members may vote and count towards a quorum.
(B)
Junior membership: Persons between the ages of ten and seventeen years
may submit a Junior Membership application and become nonvoting
members with all other rights, responsibilities and benefits of
membership except sponsorship of perspective members and holding
office. Junior Members
will not count towards a quorum.
(C)
Associate Membership: Associate membership is open to all persons
eighteen years of age and older who are in good standing with the
American Kennel Club and who subscribe to the purposes of this Club.
Associate member attendance at Club meetings is not required
and does not towards a quorum. Associate
members are not eligible to vote or hold office, however, an
associate member may upgrade his or her membership to general
membership by attending two meetings and requesting general
membership. Associate
members will receive all benefit of membership newsletters, breed
references, etc.
(D)
Life Membership: Life
Membership may be granted to any Member who has been a member for at
least twenty (20) years. A
motion to grant such membership must be presented at a general
membership meeting and will be granted by consent of three-fourths
of the members present. Life
members are exempt from paying dues but are eligible to vote.

Dues: Membership dues General membership, Associate membership
shall be $10.00 per year, Junior memberships shall be $1.00 per year.
Life memberships are exempt from dues.
Dues are payable on or before the first day of July of each year.
No member may vote whose dues are not paid for the current year.
During the month of April the Treasurer shall send to each member
a statement of his dues for the ensuing year.

Elections to Membership: Each applicant for membership shall
apply on a form as approved by the Board of Directors and by which the
applicant agrees to abide by the constitution and by-laws of the Club
and the rules of the American Kennel Club.
The application shall state the name, address and occupation of
the applicant, and shall carry the endorsement of two regular members
who are in good standing. Accompanying
the application, the prospective member shall submit dues for the
current year and an initiation fee of $5.00.
A new member joining after April 1st shall be granted
a membership for the ensuing year. Junior
members in good standing applying for regular membership are not
required to submit the initiation fee.
Membership applications are to be presented to the Secretary and
read at a general meeting at which the applicant is in attendance.
A second reading will be held at the next general membership
meeting. At the third
meeting the application will be voted on by secret ballot.
Affirmative votes of two-thirds of the present and voting members
shall be required to elect the applicant.
Applications expire after six months and applicant must reapply
for membership.
Applicants for membership who have been rejected by the Club may
not reapply within six months. All
fees submitted shall be refunded if the application is rejected.
Section

Termination of Membership:
(A)
By
resignation. Any member in
good standing may resign from the club upon written notice to the
Secretary; but no member may resign when in debt to the club.
Dues obligations are considered a debt to the club and they are
incurred on the first day of each fiscal year.
They must also return all club property.
(B)
By
lapsing. A member shall be
considered as lapsed and automatically terminated if such members dues
remain unpaid sixty days after the first day of the fiscal year;
however, the board may grant an additional 30 days of grace to such
delinquent members in meritorious cases.
In no case may a person be entitled to vote at any club meeting
whose dues are unpaid as of the date of that meeting.
(C)
By
expulsion. A membership may
be terminated by expulsion as provided in Article VI of these by-laws.
Section
5
Reinstatement: Any
person whose membership lapsed on September 1 may be reinstated any time
until and including the following January 1st upon their
written request to the Treasurer and payment of current dues plus a
$5.00 fine. The Treasurer
shall inform the President and the Secretary of any reinstatement.
Any person whose membership lapsed on September 1 and who has not
requested reinstatement and paid current dues plus the fine on or before
the following January 1st is not eligible for reinstatement
but may apply for membership as provided for in Article 1, Section 3.
